MIAMI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

MIAMI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This project consists of extensive historical renovations, additions, and alterations to one of the oldest jewels of the educational system in South Florida. The majority of the work is scheduled under 3 major phases. The first phase consists of constructing the new buildings around the existing occupied campus. This will add 3 new classroom buildings (1 -3 story and 2 - 2 story), a 3-story parking garage (94,539 SF / 204 Parking Spaces), a new Central Energy Plant housing the “New Heart” of the campus, and a new vocational auto shop. Phase Two shifts the students from the historical buildings into the newly constructed classrooms. This shift will allow for a complete renovation of the historic buildings. This includes the installation of new HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler Systems, and hurricane impact windows. Under this phase, the Media Center will be overhauled and the decorative steel trusses will be exposed. In addition, the Auditorium will receive new seating, lighting, and sound systems. The 3rd phase is overall site improvements, which consists of a new landscaped Columbia Park, Stingaree Plaza, and dedicated drop-off and pick-up areas. When completed in 2013, the school’s capacity will be increased from 1,649 to 2,800 student stations allowing the landmark to continue serving its purpose for many years to come.
